My mother and I, we had a tortured relationship – she tortured me. And always in her miserable life there was Father Malachy, cooing and cajoling, leading her on to greater acts of piety. For piety, read interference in the lives of others. That I was drunk and a failed Guard was fuel for her daily martyrdom. He encouraged her in the belief and we had some epic battles. He usually got the last word in and it was nearly always,
‘God forgive you, because only God could.’

Nice, eh?”

Hi! Interesting quote. I have been following your blog for a while now, and really enjoy your writing. I like especially the Scandinavian crime authors who write descriptive crime novels, rather than straight police procedurals. Have read a couple of your recommendations and enjoyed them. Thanks for a great blog! :-)

Hi Lisa! and thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate it. I plan to read more Scandinavian crime fiction and have some titles coming up. Which two titles did you enjoy? Thanks.

Well, I’ve discovered Johan Theorin and Asa Larsson through you. Enjoy both those authors. Also read somewhere on your blog about Peter May. Although I only really like his Lewis Trilogy (so far “The Blackhouse” and “The Lewis Man”). Found his other two series not as good.

There are so many other books you write about that I’ll be busy for some time to come!

Great writers and glad you enjoyed them, Lisa! Please let me know if you’ve discovered an author I should read. I’m always looking for recommendations. I do have the Peter May book to read along with the sequels. His books have generated some positive buzz from other readers.

Thanks harvee. You know…I didn’t know they had a movie version of his books. I’d heard of the TV series…and it’s not even available in the US.
