The Casual Vacancy Cover aka JK Rowling’s Adult Novel

Pic credit: Little, Brown Book Group

My first thought when seeing this cover was: that’s it? and the second thought was: someone probably got paid a lot of money to design that cover. The article that I swiped this from had some funny reactions from people about the cover:

“Nice of them to let one of JK Rowling’s kids design her new cover on MS Paint, grumbled @meandmybigmouth”

Bwahahahahaha.

Wait until the book comes out. I have a feeling that people are gonna rip that to shreds too!

I guess my first thought is “why on earth does anyone care?”, but I do know I’m in the minority in not caring about covers one bit. As far as I’m concerned, I’d happily have blank covers for everything.

I don’t care much about covers, either, but having seen this one 100 zillion times on Twitter and my feedreader, I have formed an opinion: Boring. Maybe Rowling is tryin ga little too hard to signal “this is an adult book”?

@rosario @Jessica I admit that covers can make or break a book for me sometimes but it’s the content that should matter. But for a billionaire author I was expecting something a little different from that generic cover. Like a million others I’m just a tad bit surprised. I plan to read the book however :-)

Not me, but then I didn’t like Harry Potter either… We could just go to ‘generic’ white covers with a UPC code: Novel [#___] by Author [#___]. That would separate the sheep from the goats.
