Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher

I’ve not read the series but if that is supposed to be Jack Reacher, he looks sort of dorky to me. The movie release date was moved up to December of this year. I know some of you can’t wait to see it. I predict it will be a blockbuster which will prompt more sequels for Cruise and company.

Who had the bright idea that this would be in any way okay with Jack Reacher fans? I won’t be watching it that’s for sure – Jack Reacher, 6’4″, Tom Cruise 4’6″

Another Hollywood sellout. I sure won’t ever see this movie. I don’t know if I even want to read the books anymore.

I did take a bit of poetic licence with TC’s height – never let the truth get in the way of a good story :-)

I imagine Lee Child is laughing all the way to the bank…as all the Tom Cruise fans will go see the movie and at least half of the Jack Reacher fans (if only to gripe). I can be blase about the whole thing because I don’t like either Cruise or Reacher so I don’t care how it all turns out but I must admit I thought Child gave a reasonable explanation during an interview I heard with him about this very issue, arguing that people were getting too hung up on size as Reacher’s defining characteristic and that Cruise would be able to embody the forcefulness of Reacher’s character perfectly well. Child made the point that it was far more important to get someone who could act (and be a box office draw) than someone who was the right height (and is a box office draw). I can’t think of too many A-list movie stars who are 6’5″.
