I thought this until a couple of weeks ago when I realised that up to a quarter of my suitcase weight was books: Jo Nesbo’s The Leopard – even in paperback for goodness sake – tips the scales at nearly half a kilo and pushed me over the 20kg easyJet baggage limit.
So in preparation for my next no frills flight I have taken the Kindle plunge. I have yet to test it in the field, as it were, but I’m not sure how much I’ll enjoy reading a computer screen instead of a book.
File this under “amused.” I say: you’ll get used to it pretty quick but YMMV. Just because: Jo Nesbo’s The Leopard clocks in at 624 pages in hardcover. Who would want to lug that thing around on vacation? Not me. Those days are gone.
One word of caution though for those still thinking about a dedicated reader: most pundits that discuss digital products never really talk about customer service as being something to consider and it’s a big deal. It’s no surprise to me that Kindle is everywhere. So far, their customer service has been excellent. Every once in a while I’ll hear someone screaming at them about something but it’s not very often that I do so.
